Choi's individual blog post 2



For advertisers, any publicity is good, when it is related to their brand. So some advertising agency comes up with controversial idea deliberately. But when it is crossing the line, you might experience the backlash rather than compliment. When you look at this Dolce & Gabbana advertisement , what do you notice? A lovely woman? Four handsome men? Actually it has a lot of connotations. But obviously it might incite violence against women. They can’t deny it. Of course I don’t think this ad want to offend female audience originally. Especially the fashion industry, they are expected to be cutting edge and it could make them to be provocative. Fashion brand tends to use sexual image frequently to lure customers. The question is when they cross the line. But in the midst of marketing war, they treat women as just promotion tool. This attitude might cause problematic campaign idea. But it’s possible this could contribute to domestic violence when men think they own and posses women. Companies have to think more carefully before launching advertising campaign, even they are desperate to be cutting edge and sell their product.
