Claire Thieneman's First Individual Blog Post

This is an ad for Promesse perfume by Cacharel. In this ad, we can see a man and a woman. The man and woman are attractive and white. They are hugging, dressed nicely, and sitting on a bench in the city. There is no one else in the picture, and it looks like a romantic setting. The woman is playing with the man's hair and holding a bouquet of purple and white flowers. They look like they may have come from a wedding. They both look very happy, like nothing in the world could upset them. The woman seems to be staring deeply into the man's eyes. They are portraying a "perfect" version of love. Also, in the picture, there is a pink bottle of perfume. Underneath the bottle of perfume, it says "more than a fragrance, a promise." The ad is trying to convince people that using this perfume will help you find a relationship. People are attracted to the picture perfect relationship that is portrayed. It is saying that the perfume will provide you with a promise. People can take this in many ways. It could be a promise for the future or a promise that you will get what you want. Would this ad be as effective if it had African American models? Why do people think that material things can help them find the perfect relationship?
