Rubadue, Individual Post #2

This is an image of a Honda car advertisement. The advertisement is directed more toward a male point of view. The image shows a picture of a Honda car from the front and next to that image is a picture of a man’s face smiling from ear to ear facing toward the front also. The car and the man seem similar in a way that they are both facing toward the same direction. This seems to show that they are meant to be together and they look good together. Underneath the picture the words “It must be love” are written. This advertisement is showing the kind of love men are portrayed to have for their cars today. This ad seems to be saying that in today’s society, all men love cars, and men will especially love Honda cars. This advertisement is not showing the typical kind of love that is between a man and a women. It is showing the love a man has for their car. The man in the picture is wearing a collared shirt and tie which makes him appear wealthy and smart. This ad seems to show that if you want to look wealthy and if you want to be happy, then you should buy this car. Would this ad be just as effective if there was a women smiling from ear to ear instead of a man? Would the ad be just as effective if it showed the mans whole body or if the car was facing to the side?

  1. I think this is a fun visual-- it is also clearly playing off of the idea that people (or even pets and owners!) who are together for a long time begin to look like each other. Interesting.
