Rubadue:Primary Source #2:AU10

This is a picture of an Abercrombie and Fitch ad. This image shows a girl and a boy laying together and they seem to be in a relationship, either a romantic one or a sexual one. The girl looks young and pretty and the boy looks young and strong and handsome. This is a clothing ad even though the models are wearing little clothing. This image shows that if you want to be young and pretty like us, then you should buy out clothing. Many Abercrombie and Fitch ads play with sexual appeal with men with their shirts off and with men and women in little clothing. This image ties in with our topic of "breaking down the rhetoric of love in pop culture" by it is showing that if you wear this clothing, you will be attractive and pretty and get others to like you in either a sexual or a romantic way. Also it shows that if you dress the way others dress that is popular, then you will be accepted in society. This article play with our emotions because it shows a young and attractive man and woman and we want to be just like them and look just like them. What does this image show about how advertisments play with our emtions to get us to buy their material? What does this image show about things we value most in life?

  1. This advertisement would also be a good source because like you point out its an ad for a clothing line, but the models are barely even wearing clothes. If they didn't print their companies name at the bottom you wouldn't even be able to tell who's product it is. I think you could talk a lot about how ads these days don't really sell their product in their ads they are just trying to sell sex appeal and thats what this as does.
