Rubadue:Primary Source #1:AU10

This is a picture of an ad for Perry Ellis 18, frangrances for men and women. This image shows a perfect man and women standing very close to each other in the water at a beach. The man and woman are both wearing white, are young, attractive, and it looks like the perfect day outside. The man and woman seem to be in love with eachother. This image suggests that if woman use this perfume, men will be attracted to them and if men use this colonge, women will be attracted to them. The image also suggests that if you want to be like this perfect man or woman, then you should buy this frangrance. This image relate with our topic of "breaking down the rhetoric of love in pop culture" by it is showing that with this fragrance, you will find love, happiness, and the perfect relationship, when really, love and relationships have nothing to do with what kind of perfume or cologne you use. What does this image show about objects, our culture, and love today? Would this image have the same effect if the man and woman were placed in a different setting with a different style of clothing?

  1. This example is perfect to show how advertisements today use sex appeal and love to sell their product. Like you say this image has nothing really to do with the fragrances and they are playing on this fact that people will buy into the fact that if you buy their product then you will attract the opposite sex. This advertisement would be a very good source for our project and your least question really sparks up a good conversation.
