THIENEMAN:Primary Source #1: AU10

This ad is for Diesel jeans. In the background of the image, the city is flooded with water. It is sunny and probably hot. The picture shows a man and a woman on the rooftop of a building. The man is laying his head in the woman's lap. Both the man and the woman are attractive and fit. The woman is wearing a skimpy dress, and the man is wearing an unbuttoned shirt and jeans. The woman has a glass of water and is pouring the water into the man's mouth. The man seems very relaxed, and it looks like the woman is willing to do anything to keep the man happy. The man is the dominant one, and the woman is the passive one. This relates to our theme because it is showing a common stereotype of men and women seen in society today. This ad is obviously targeted toward men. It is basically trying to say that if you buy these jeans, woman will instantly do anything you want them to. This ad probably impacts the way men think of women. Would this ad still be effective if the woman was not attractive? Why do men always want someone to exert their power over? Is there always a sense on inequality between males and females?
