The song "Mine" by Taylor Swift is a very positive song for teens because it provides establishes a “fairytale” situation and puts a “real life” spin on it. The song begins by describing the beginnings of a relationship between a teenage boy and girl. The song is from the point of view of the young girl. During the first stages of the relationship she is "Wonderin' why we bother with love if it never lasts." This seems to be because she has issues with previous abandonment. Her fear of abandonment is a very important repetition. It is something that many young girls must try to deal with so it makes the song very relatable which is one of the main reasons why it is so popular. As the song progresses, so does the relationship between the boy and girl. The girl begins referring to the boy as "the best thing that's ever been mine." This phrase is the most important repetition. It emphasizes the fact that the girl is very much in love with the boy and that she is very grateful that she has found him. The boy and girl begin taking on bigger challenges together and the boy tells the girl that "we'll never make your parents mistakes." This again refers back to the theme of abandonment and leads the listener to believe that the abandonment the girl struggles with stems from her parents. Much later in the relationship, the now man and woman get into a big fight, and the woman just assumes that the man is going to leave her like her parents. She says, "Brace myself for the goodbye" because she thinks the relationship is about to end which would leave her all alone. She thinks this because abandonment is all she’s even known so she assumes that it is what happens in every situation. But to the surprise of the woman, the man hugs her and says "I'll never leave you alone." The man and the woman now believe that their relationship is strong enough to make it through anything.
