Megan's Individual Blog Post 1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsfuuFwY1Io

This youtube clip is one of many commercials produced by Apple. It is commonly referred to as a Mac/PC commercial. You will notice that the background of this is completely white and well lit. That is appealing to viewers because people like things to be clean and clear. There is not anything going on in the background and the man on the right introduces himself as a Mac and the man on the left introduces himself as a PC. Mac is a young guy wearing jeans and a t-shirt while PC is an older man in a suit. The way this influences the people watching it is that we often automatically think whatever the more attractive person is promoting is more attractive. The age and appearance of people who use Mac and PC computers is somewhat of a stereotype but still pulls at our emotions and attractions. They are talking about networking and the things they have in common and can do together. A woman comes along and grabs Mac's other hand and PC, who is talking about his relationship with Mac, stutters and asks who she is feeling excluded. Mac explains that she is the new Japanese camera that just came out and he speaks her language. When they stand closer together and start speaking her language PC is even more excluded and confused. This makes the Mac look more attractive and the PC even less attractive.
