Splawinsk: Individual Blog Post 1

Most of us are familiar with these godaddy.com advertisements. This is a good example; Danica Patrick, who is receiving a massage from another attractive woman, is lying down (assumingly naked) with a towel on top of her. The masseuse, like in all the others godaddy.com adds, realizes Danica is “the godaddy girl” and then, while ripping her clothes off, asks Danica is she thinks she can be a godaddy girl too. The masseuse ends up only having a tank top and short shorts on, thus probably getting the attention of the guys watching the commercial, and mostly men watch the Super Bowl, for which this commercial was made. The commercial ends with “see more now at godaddy.com,” and there’s a “warning: web content unrated” on the end picture, enticing people to visit the site. This is a very obvious and direct advertising marketing strategy; godaddy.com is purposely and blatantly using sexual appeal to attract possible consumers. All these godaddy.com ads are directed mostly toward men, as they use pretty women to advertise their product, domain hosting. One would assume this tactic is effective, as advertisements like this one have been on television for over a year. Moreover, the commercial is easily remembered due to its racy content, which is definitely good for godaddy.com. Radicalism, however annoying, is often significantly effective in causing people to remember what it represented.
