WARD, Individual Post 2

In this advertisement for Skyy Vodka a man is sitting on a lawn chair alongside a pool pouring vodka into a woman's glass. The woman is lying on a pool raft right next to the man with a look of pleasure and happiness on her face. There is an idealistic sky in the background and the water in the pool is rough and appears to be disturbed. Due to the body language of the woman it appears as if the man is seducing the woman. The woman’s back is arched, her legs are bent, and the look on her face makes it appear as if she has just been "pleased." The roughness and disturbance of the water further adds to the appearance that something sexual has, or is, taking place. To women this ad appeals and is trying to make them feel that by buying this vodka the ultimate pleasure will take place. The man has a nice suit on, is wearing sunglasses, and appears to be extremely happy (almost laughing). It is possible that this ad is trying to make men feel that by buying this vodka they will be cool, powerful, and will please a beautiful woman. This ad has sex appeal and is trying to draw the viewer in due to the sex appeal.

When I first saw this ad I instantly thought it was interesting how the man is put into a position above the woman. The whole body of the man is lying above the woman in this advertisement. This makes the man appear to be on top, and more powerful than the woman. By placing the man higher up than the woman, rather than on the same level, it may cause men to feel that by buying this vodka they are more powerful than the woman.

I also noticed the contrast in the outfits the man and the woman were wearing. The woman is wearing all white while the man is wearing an all black suits. This possibly makes this appear as if they are simplistic and "black and white." Black and white also go very well together so it is possible that the ad is trying to show that the man and the woman go well together, and they look good together.

The brightness, and almost perfectness of the situation (nice blue sky, perfectly blue water, happiness of the man and woman) draws the viewer in. It makes the viewer want to be in that situation due to it's idealism. This is another tactic to get the viewer to buy their vodka.
