We might need to watch this advertisement for French McDonald with a bit more acceptance and open-mindedness.

“I’m thinking about you too, I’m looking at our class picture”, says the boy. Then comes his father. Concerned about the phone call, father asks his son if that is son’s classmate and he continues saying that he was quite the ladies’ man. “Too bad your class is all boys” ends the advertisement, capturing too many thoughts and imagination.

This advertisement is successful as it reveals two kinds of love -- the love between partners as well as the love between father and son. Other than some advertisements that leverages lust and desire that they think love and romance are composed of, this short story promotes a warm and sweet feeling. In this sense, McDonald shifts away from selling its products to promoting its corporate culture. The collaboration of background music and scenes further brings in a sense of romance and warmth.

Not so ardent or impulsive, maybe this is the other side of love. The short video would be effective enough to convey the idea of care and concern yet it goes further. Implicitly stating that the boy is gay, the sense of acceptance that McDonald tries to express comes to my mind. The change of values, beliefs and fights towards equality of everyone is coming silently, slowly yet constantly. The equality between man and woman has been largely accepted by the majority and now comes the understanding of heterosexual relations and homosexual ones. It might be struggling to some yet this kind of social phenomena towards equal treatment dictates a positive state of mind, as McDonald says: “Come as you are.”
