Second Individual Post
My second individual post is about the above picture ad. This picture ad displays a assumed happy married couple that has is purchasing a Kenwood Chef. The couple is used to relate to the average couple, so it is more appeal to people of that age group, which is going to be the highest number of purchases will come from. The top of the article says that this machine does everything but cook, because that is what wives are for.
The saying uses a very common stereotype that is known throughout all of society. It is assumed that the women in society are the cookers and caregivers of the family. It is implied that the man of the house is the provider for the family. This ad plays on these facts to try and support the general stereotype, while also adding a small comical relief. The fact that this machine does everything except cook, is supposed to make it seem like the woman's household job is being made easier. Many ads such as this use a sexist style to try and relate to their audience. Society has come to believe and accept this assumptions and that is why ads have success using this style of text.
